Delice Bialke, OSB, died Thursday, July 24, 2008

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Sacred Heart Chapel, Saint Benedict’s Monastery, St. Joseph, Minn., for Sister Delice Bialke, who died on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud.  Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Monday, July 28, from 1-6 p.m. or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Saint Benedict’s Monastery.  Visitation continues at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Tuesday, July 29, at 4 p.m.

S. Delice (Genevieve) Bialke was born November 7, 1917, to John and Josephine (Sadoski) Bialke in Ronneby, Minn.  She attended District #61 in Benton County, St. Peter and Paul School in Gilman and Saint Benedict’s High School. Sister Delice earned a B.A. degree in elementary education from the College of Saint Benedict.  She also attended St. Paul Diocesan Teachers’ College, St. Cloud State University, and Regis College in Denver, Colo. 

On August 29, 1933, S. Delice came to Saint Benedict’s Monastery, was received as a novice on June 25, 1938, made her first monastic profession on July 11, 1939, and perpetual profession on July 11, 1942. 

S. Delice served as a primary teacher and religious educator at Gilman, Duelm, Dumont, White Earth and Cold Spring. She sometimes had two, three or four grades at the same time and also served as principal. At Onamia she served as a parish visitor and taught religion. While in Ogema, she was a parish visitor, religion teacher and managed the mission store in White Earth. She volunteered as a teacher’s aide, religion teacher and parish visitor at Melrose and, in Redlake,  managed the mission store. S. Delice moved to Saint Benedict’s Monastery in 1991 where she assisted in the Liturgy Office and made shard glass vigil lights in the Artisan Studios. In 2007 she retired to Saint Scholastica Convent, St. Cloud, where she continued her life of prayer and community. 

Surviving S. Delice are her Benedictine community and two sisters: Rita (Dwain) Raustadt in Seligman, Mo., and  Irene (Marland) Rhoe in Wayzata, Minn. Four brothers (Frank, Severyn, Marcel, and Florian) and three sisters (Leona Raustadt, Corrine Fuller and Frances Woodyard) preceded her in death.
