Benedictine Sisters are called to love Jesus in ordinary ways as they live their life together in community. The characteristics and examples described below are all part of a Sisters’ life.

Sensitivity at the common table by listening attentively while conversing with one another.

Spontaneity: Helping a Sister with a task.

Other-centeredness: Writing a letter encouraging Congress persons to act on behalf of those who need food, housing and jobs.

Unity: Graciously extending the sign of peace at the Eucharist.

Living in the present moment at prayer, play and work.

Nourishing one another: Canning fresh vegetables and cooking meals that nourish the body with food and the spirit with conversation.

Playing: Relaxing in nature, being grateful for the gift of life, friendship and God’s gifts.

Seeking peace: Asking and offering forgiveness. Praying for world peace and working for justice and equality for all of God’s people.

Contemplation: Reading Scripture and pondering the unconditional love Jesus has for each person.

Gratitude: For the gifts of life, each other and all the blessings our earth provides for us.

Study: For the joy of learning and increasing self-knowledge that leads to love of God, self and others.

Prayer: Communally seeking God together and praying for the needs of the broader church and world.
